Pender Harbour & Egmont

The Blues Festival is on! Enjoy three days of world class entertainment in Pender Harbour paradise this weekend. For tickets and to check out the fantastic line up of concerts, go to www.phblues.ca. The Egmont Community Club is hosting the annual Egmont Day celebration this Saturday, June 3, starting at 9 a.m. at the government dock with the kids under 12 fishing derby with great prizes! Following the derby will be the parade, hot lunch, field races and games, petting zoo, pony rides, zodiac tours, jet ski demos, live music and chowder cook off. All events are free and family friendly.

This is Egmont’s centennial celebration, 100 years! Come join the local folks and celebrate this momentous occasion. To enter the chowder cook off, call 604-883-1379.

Seniors Initiative activities this week start off with walking exercises on Tuesday, June 6, 10:30 to 11 a.m., and carpet bowling Wednesday 1 to 3 p.m.  Harbourside Friendship is on Thursday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. – a Celebration with Seniors. Come, bring a friend and celebrate being a senior. Have fun with the casino theme, get your picture taken with a vintage car or motorcycle, and enjoy a free lunch. Friday is chair yoga with Caro Logtenburg, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All activities are at the community hall.

Friday, June 9, the School of Music Coffee House will welcome to the stage Back Porch Reunion, Nikki and Friends, and Allan Nenhuis. Come and enjoy great local musicians, delicious desserts and wonderful ambience in this waterfront cabaret setting. $10 suggested donation at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m., music at 7:30 p.m.

The Pender Harbour Garden Club meeting is Monday, June 12, at the School of Music at 1 p.m. Jennifer Lipka (former garden advisor with West Coast Seeds, involved with bee conservation projects in the Lower Mainland, and presently working on her Environmental and Sustainability degree at UBC) will share her wealth of knowledge and experience. $5 drop in or $15 for an annual membership.

Girl Guides of Pender Harbour are looking for leaders to volunteer as unit leaders for Sparks, Brownies and Guides. Training and mentoring are provided. Part-time leaders are in place for Guides, Brownies will need a third leader. Come join a great organization and have a lot of fun, adventures and great experiences.
