Harbour Highlights

Pender Harbour & Egmont

The 16th annual April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge starts at 10 a.m. this Saturday, April 29 as the boat building teams race to build their winning crafts. There will be lots of fun for the whole family including kids boatbuilding, crafts, face painting and other activities all day long at the Millennium Park and government wharf.

The Harbour Gallery has a special opening this Saturday during April Tools. In keeping with the boat building theme, the artists have taken up the tools of their trade and created a nautical show celebrating boats and the beauty of our coastal waters. A Nod to Nauticals will be on display 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Harbour Gallery is located just up the steps from the Millennium Park.

Another art show will be up the street at the Pender Harbour Community Hall featuring creations by students from Madeira Park Elementary School and Pender Harbour Secondary School as part of the wonderful arts, crafts and plant sale with proceeds going to the Community Club supporting the Hall. Then carry on up the road to the Legion and their annual gigantic garage sale starting at 10 a.m.

There are a few tickets left for Saturday’s concert for Better At Home at the Raven’s Cry Theatre, starring Jane Mortifee and Kathryn Nicholson accompanied by the Sound Eclectic choir and joined by the instrumental duo of Ken Cormier and Rene Worst. All proceeds will be donated to the Better At Home program on the Coast. Some seats for seniors are still available on the Duck Bus departing at 6:15 p.m. from the Pender Community Hall. Reserve with Marlene at 604-883-9900.

Please note there will be no Bingo May 4 as the Hall is booked for early voting.

The amazing Bargain Barn volunteers present Food and Fashion, a delicious Sunday brunch and fashion show, May 7, 11:30 a.m. at the Pender Harbour Legion. There will be a silent auction and lots of opportunities to buy gifts, an absolutely fabulous event just a week ahead of Mother’s Day. Bring your mother, grandmother, wife and friends – and enjoy!

On May 8 at 1 p.m. at the School of Music, Fred Wein Sr. of Clearview Horticultural products will delight the P.H. Garden Club with his talk about clematis. Clearview is a family business founded in 1970 that continues to innovate and has become North America’s leader in clematis propagation, production and breeding. Frank will donate three clematis plants for raffle prizes. Garden Club members will receive a 10 per cent discount at the seasonal garden shop in Aldergrove.
