Huge heartfelt thanks to those amazing bakers and produce gardeners who filled the tables and to all who came out and supported the fourth annual BCSPCA Fundraiser last Saturday. Together $535 was raised for the Sunshine Coast BCSPCA. Come out this Sunday, Sept. 11 for the Paws for a Cause Walk and extravaganza at Hackett Park starting at 11 a.m.

This Friday, Sept. 9, Pender Harbour Music Society’s Coffee House welcomes to the stage Edmund Arceo performing folk and pop songs, Mark Brezer, popular local singer and guitarist, Geue Boys (Brison, Ethan, Caleb), youth pianists, and Spirit Singers, a new Harbour gospel group. The Pender Harbour Advisory Council Society (PHAC) community association will focus several issues of community concern at its Town Hall Meeting and AGM on Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. in the PH Community Hall. See the full story on page 16. Visit www.penderharbouradvisorycouncil.com for more information.

Another year of Guiding adventures and fun begins soon. Sparks and Brownies (girls in grades K-3) will have their first meeting on Sept. 12 after school. Pathfinders and Rangers (girls in grades 7-12), call Gwen for information.

Opening day at Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre is Monday, Sept. 12, with lots of amazing programs for all ages this fall. Check out the fall/winter recreation guide coming in the mail or call 604-885-6866. All the drop-in fitness classes (gym and pool) begin the week of Sept. 12.

EarthFair Store in Madeira Park is hosting a book signing with Frank Appleton on Friday, Sept. 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. Appleton is an English-trained brewmaster considered by many to be the father of Canada’s craft-brewing movement. His new book, Brewing Revolution: Pioneering the Craft Beer Movement, looks at his 50 years in the brewing business, from his early years working for a major brewery to his role in establishing the first cottage brewery in Canada. Everyone is welcome to come meet him, ask questions and buy an autographed copy of his book. For more information, phone the EarthFair Store at 604-883-9006.

Flair on the Coast is starting this month in Pender Harbour as well as Sechelt. Flair is for men and women facing a cancer diagnosis, impacted by cancer treatment, in remission or affected by a loved one with cancer. It’s not just a workshop, it’s a spirit lifter, a mini makeover, information, camaraderie and laughter. It’s a shot of confidence and a chance to feel like yourself again. Please join Jean Pate and Carol Bowman Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Activity Centre at Lilies Lake, Madeira Park for the first meeting in the Harbour, 10 a.m. to noon.
