At the Back Eddy for the first time in 2022, this Saturday, May 28, the legendary Jim Foster will perform his outstanding original songs starting at 5 p.m. Get there early and enjoy the fabulous food and breathtaking views. We enjoyed a fine time at the Eddy, Monday late afternoon, after the weekend crowds were gone. Chill time in the sun, delicious food, and great service from Neil. 

More Egmont delights, Cinni bun time! Yes, you know what that means, Skookumchuk Bakery & Café is open for the season with their outrageously delicious baking and coffees. You may want to hit the trail to max out on the goodies afterwards. Go to [email protected] for hours they are open. Pre-order to avoid disappointment. 

The Visitor Centre in Madeira Park is open every weekend until the September long weekend. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lovely Frankie will be there to provide info and answer questions. This is a call out for volunteers to help weekdays during July and August. No experience necessary. No sales, just chatting with happy visitors. For more info, please call 604-883-2561. “Spirit of the Forest,” the exhibit of artists Barbara DeMott, Randi Gurholt-Seary, Pia Sillem continues FibreWorks Studio & Gallery at the yurts. “Artists Talk” live on Facebook is this Saturday, May 28, at noon. Please visit www.fibreworksgallery.com for details of all their great offerings. 

The Harbour Gallery is open for the season and full of extraordinary new works by our fantastic local artists. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays now throughout June. Greeting you will be “The Harbour Gal” a fabulous creation of upcycled, recycled, repurposed junk collected saved from the landfill by the Bargain Barn and transformed by the resident artists. She will catch your attention as she sits in her boat, fishing by the door. Well done! 

Speaking of the Barn, opening hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Purchases are cash only, thank you. Donations accepted on Fridays 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the PH Community Hall. The Pender Harbour Garden Club’s first meeting of 2022 is Monday, May 30, 1 p.m. at the School of Music. Guest speaker is Angela Stearns talking about the important subject of soil. Membership (annual) is $15 or drop in for $5. Members receive a card for discounts at most garden centres. Cash or cheques please. Doors open at 12:40 p.m. 

Plan for next weekend’s events so you do not miss a beat. The 17th Annual Pender Harbour Blues Festival  June 3, 4, 5 is the biggest musical event on the Coast. You just might be able to get tickets to one or two of the fantastic performances now at www.phblues.ca. Visit [email protected] for the complete lineup. Be sure to win all the way and purchase raffle tickets for over-the-top prizes. CDs! those 5 x 5 ½ inch treasures you can hear, see, and hold in your hand and read the liner notes will be for sale – just find Lyn Sullivan, vice-president of the PH Blues Society. She will be at all the the venues with the goods, PHBS merch too! 

Egmont Day is next Saturday, June 4, starting at 8:30 a.m. with the Kids Fishing Derby followed by nonstop fun: Dunk tank, zodiac rides, cake walk to name a few. The parade is 11 a.m. Parade entries welcome and you can contact Dawn Henderson on messenger or in person. 

The 77th May Day was one for the record books. Wow! A huge rainbow of thanks to everyone, the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, performers, vendors and societies, and all of you who came out to make this a spectacular, exciting, celebration. Mother Nature certainly shone her approval!
