Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and enjoyed the mild temperatures along with some sunshine. Loving how lush and green everything is right now and it seems the weeds are exceptionally happy with these weather conditions.

On June 3, the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 12 (RCM SAR12) team was called out on a joint tasking operation with the Canadian Coast Guard Cape Cockburn boat and the CCG Moytel (hovercraft). A call was received that a person on a sailboat was in medical distress and needed assistance. The patient was taken onto Cape Cockburn and transferred to a waiting Emergency Medical Services team. The sailboat was brought to a safe harbour by RCM SAR12. Bravo Zulu to all the rescuers and for being out there to help those in need on the water.

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary (SCHA) recently hosted a fundraiser at the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Thrift Store in Sechelt. Thanks to the support of their membership and the community, they raised close to $1,500!

On June 10 some amazing SCHA volunteers will be supplying the Pender Harbour and Halfmoon Bay elementary schools with fruit cups on their sports day. This group of dedicated and caring individuals purchase the fruit, prepare and pack then deliver these cups to the schools the day before sports day. These fruit cups are very much appreciated by the schools and their students. A wonderful nutritious snack to have during a busy sporting day.

Sports Day was always an exciting time and I loved participating not only in the races but helping with set up and take down. I remember the chill in the air in the morning with the promise of a warm day and warmer days to come during the summer break. The goal for the day was to do our best in all the races and hopefully receive a ribbon or two. Didn’t matter what place we came in, just being able to pin a ribbon to your shirt was something to be proud of. I remember the smell of the hot dogs boiling and fiddling with those silly condiment packets to top the skinny dog on a fresh squishy bun. What about the “orange pop,” which was basically sugar syrup with orange food colouring mixed with carbonated water, which left your tongue and mouth stained orange for days. Yum? Then to top it all off, a wagon wheel treat. Do you remember those? Finally, the day would come to a close and we left with full tummies and happy hearts looking forward to the school year coming to a close and enjoying our summer. For students young and older, hopefully you will create wonderful memories on sports day. Have fun and remember, you don’t have to win a race or receive a ribbon, just participating is the most important thing.
