There was a great turnout for the Grade 7 fundraising car wash at Halfmoon Bay Elementary School last week.

Today is the day, it’s time for the Halfmoon Bay Elementary Carnival! Come on down for the best party in the wild west, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. tonight. We are hoping to see everyone lean into the Western theme this year so unpack those boots and get scootin’. Our very own Halfmoon Bay Fire Department will be on site manning the grills so stop by and say hi! The Halfmoon Bay PAC concession will be running, along with Lauri Paul’s Salmon Burgers, Izzy’s Cotton Candy and e.b.’s Ice Cream. There will be games, prizes, a silent auction, 50/50 draw, bouncy castles, bingo and facepainting. And yes, the dunk tank is back with very special local “dunkees” signed up. There will be a raffle for a $1,000 cash prize, which will be drawn tonight at the Carnival. This event is an important fundraiser hosted by the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School PAC. Funds raised will be used to provide funding and resources for students at Halfmoon Bay Elementary. A huge thank you to all the volunteers.

The car wash held at the school last Sunday had a great turnout. This was a fundraiser for the Grade 7 kids to go to Keats Island for their graduating trip and roughly $1,000 was raised. The Halfmoon Bay Fire Department was on-site helping with the water supply and Foxham Detail Studio was kind enough to lend their time and hands to make sure everyone left happy. Such a great community effort, as one commenter said, “Our kids are lucky to grow up here!”

I caught up with Tracy Wandling and she says the Saturday Jam at Coopers Green has been picking up with new attendees and a solid turnout. She has decided to keep this event going for another month. As Tracy has said previously, “We would love to have anyone who enjoys community, and silliness, to come join us. And you don’t have to be a professional musician. Everybody is welcome. Amps are allowed (if needed). Children are welcome. Bring your shakers, your voice, or just your appreciation and enthusiasm.” So come on down from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday night at Cooper Green Hall and as always, this is a neighbourhood event open to all.

The Halfmoon Bay branch of the Sunshine Coast Health Auxiliary has an upcoming fundraiser on May 10 at Trail Bay Mall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., mark your calendar and keep an eye on next week’s column for more details. There will be lots of goodies and items for purchase just in time for Mother’s Day.
