Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

The regular meeting of the Halfmoon Bay branch of St. Mary’s Hospital Healthcare Auxiliary is on Monday, Sept. 12 at 9:45 a.m. at Cooper’s Green. Visitors and new members are welcome. Members should bring their annual dues of $10, if they have not already paid. Check out the website at www.stmarysauxiliary.com for more details.

Starting Sept. 14, the Halfmoon Bay Community Association is again sponsoring pickleball on Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Halfmoon Bay Elementary School on Northwood Road. Paddles and balls are supplied. Cost is $3, and new members are free the first night. Join the fun and good exercise. For more information email [email protected], or Tim Dayton [email protected]. Both players and spectators are invited. All skill levels are welcome.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is inviting all members of the community to participate in the fifth annual Backroad Trash Bash taking place on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s event will focus on cleaning up illegal dumpsites in the Roberts Creek area. In 2015, the event received an overwhelmingly positive response as 42 people gathered to clean up trash illegally dumped at remote locations in Halfmoon Bay and Sechelt.

Oct. 22 and 23 is the Apple Festival weekend. Apples are ripening now, so if you have any to share with the big copper kettle, they will be put to good use. Also on the want list is cured maple firewood that goes under the big kettle. Bring apples and firewood to the back door of Dolphin Physio and Fitness, #102 - 5711 Mermaid St., Sechelt. Or call Katie at 604-885-2969 to arrange for pick up. Applefest weekend also has the Boogie, Brats and Beer dance at Coopers Green, on the Saturday.

To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or 604-885-5034.
