Next weekend the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Halfmoon Bay Country Fair begins on Saturday, July 9. Starting at 10 a.m. is the annual fishing tournament for kids under 12. Register at the Halfmoon Bay Café at 9:45 a.m. and be eligible for fabulous prizes.
Gary Little will be giving a presentation on the Early History of Halfmoon Bay on July 6 as a part of the 50th anniversary of the Fair. All seats are now taken. Please email me for late cancellations ([email protected]).
At 6 p.m. in Coopers Green Park there is a BBQ sockeye salmon dinner and dance. Tickets are just $25 with live music from Poppa Greg and the Chillin’ Dylans. There are a few tickets left at Halfmoon Bay General Store and Welcome Woods Market. If you would like to attend just for the salmon dinner, you can pay at the door, $15 for adults, $8 for under 16, free for under two.
On Sunday, July 10, the theme for the anniversary fair is the 1960s. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.
The fair kicks off at 9 a.m. with the traditional Sun-shine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary’s pancake breakfast.
The 3.5 mile trophy race will start at Connor Park and finish at Coopers Green. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
The official opening and cutting of the anniversary cake takes place at 11 a.m. followed by children’s games, over 30 local vendors, bingo, cakewalk, pony rides, dunk tank, beer garden, and much more.
Centre stage will feature performances by Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis, Matt Diamond, Katie and the Cornpones, Poppa Greg and the Chillin’ Dylans, and Halfmoon Bay’s answer to the Beatles – The Seaweeds.
There will also be a silent auction with excellent items to bid on including eight prints by the artist Pierre Joseph Redoute (1759 – 1840). He was commissioned by the Empress Josephine (wife of Napoleon) to paint the roses in her garden. AAA Peninsula Septic Tank Service Inc. has donated a residential pump out valued over $400. Plus limited edition (three only) Halfmoon Bay tie-dyed 50th anniversary T-shirts and so much more. Pick up a deal!
