Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

At low tide (12:25 p.m.) on June 5 at Sargeants Bay, join Lee-Ann Ennis and the crew from the Iris Griffith Centre for the annual Intertidal Explorations. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will include wet tanks with opportunities to have some hands-on experience with the critters that live in the intertidal waters of the Bay. This year, one goal is to do a few beach plots, digging, identifying and counting clams, all the while keeping an eye out for the green crab, Carcinus maenus.

SCRD chair and HMB director Garry Nohr will make himself available Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the Welcome Woods Market and Fridays at 10 a.m. at the Halfmoon Bay Café.

The theme of this year’s 50th anniversary Halfmoon Bay Country Fair is 1960s. We are looking for donations for the fair committee’s silent auction. Please offer the unusual: take people fishing, guide a hike, dinner for four at your house?

Gary Little will give a presentation on the early history of Halfmoon Bay, July 6, as part of the 50th anniversary of the Fair. There are no tickets, but because of limited seating, send me confirmation if you would like to attend. There are still a few spots left.

To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or 604-885-5034.
