Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

At low tide (12:25 p.m.) on June 5 at Sargeants Bay, join Lee-Ann Ennis and the crew from the Iris Griffith Centre for the annual Intertidal Explorations. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will include wet tanks with opportunities to have some hands-on experience with the critters that live in the intertidal waters of the Bay. This year, one goal is to do a few beach plots, digging, identifying and counting clams, all the while keeping an eye out for the green crab, Carcinus maenus.

SCRD chair and HMB director Garry Nohr will make himself available Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the Welcome Woods Market and Fridays at 10 a.m. at the Halfmoon Bay Café.

The theme of this year’s 50th anniversary Halfmoon Bay Country Fair is 1960s.

The first Fair was held in 1966. There will be prizes for best costume – old and new hippies are welcome! The Coasters Car Club will send several 1960s cars. If you would like to help decorate Coopers Green Park to bring back memories of the era, please call or email me ([email protected] or 604-885-5034). The Fair date is set for July 9 and 10.

Anyone interested in helping out with children’s games at the Fair (maybe HMB School alumni?), please call Wendy Pearson at 604-551-8461.

Gary Little will be giving a presentation on The Early History of Halfmoon Bay, July 6, as part of the 50th anniversary of the Fair. There are no tickets, but because of limited seating, send me confirmation if you would like to attend.

To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or 604-885-5034.
