Greetings Creekers

Well, you might consider yourself to be up to date on who’s doing what in the Creek but if you really want to know you need the Roberts Creek Directory of Everything. This cool little directory has been published since 2015 but missed the last couple of years due to COVID. Now it’s coming back with a 2023/24 edition and this is your opportunity to get a listing. So whether you operate a mainstream business, teach the hurdy gurdy, or quietly work away making widgets in your basement, this is how people can find out. Not only that, but it’s a physical directory, no technology required, and perfect for people like me who still use a phone book. Everyone in the Creek will get one free in their mailbox and it will be available at tourist centres up and down the Coast. Listings are available on a sliding scale of $25 to $45 and larger ad space is available too. Contact [email protected] or call 604-399-8103.

Yesterday’s walk through the Creek included two uplifting moments. First, I encountered an elated friend who had just witnessed a school of dolphins passing by and then I saw something I have been waiting for, the first elderflowers. Yahoo! Now I can make cordial and so can you. You only need a few of those fragrant blossoms, lemons, sugar and citric acid and you will have a cordial to mix with soda for refreshing drinks all summer long. It reminds me of my elderly father who in his last spring decided he needed to make elderflower cordial but ran out of sugar. With no access to a store, his creative solution was to use the syrup from the humming bird feeder! Not a method I recommend but I encourage you to look up a recipe (Google!) and give it a try.

This Sunday there is a work party at the Legacy Garden. That’s the lovely, enclosed garden at the school. It’s an initiative of the community school and is maintained by the students and a group of community volunteer gardeners. So, if you can help anytime between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on May 7, show up with some tools. Email [email protected] to let them know you are coming.

Sunday Cider is not in Roberts Creek but they are right on the border and they probably wish they were, so I am going to let you know that they are celebrating Cinco de Mayo tonight with live music and Mexican food.

Hall events next week include Tai Chi on Tuesday, 5 Rythms on Wednesday and don’t forget the Wednesday Market. More and more fresh produce will be showing up. Also, that “little business that could”, Curry in the Creek is back in its 15th year with Vegetarian Dosa Lunches on Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. and curry dinner pick up on Thursdays. www.curryinthecreek.com for details.

The Steve Hinton Band is playing the Legion on Friday (tonight) and next Tuesday is the Ukulele Groove and community sing along. The Davis Bay Jazz Ensemble will be playing Thursday evening.

The RCCA is hiring! They are looking for an event co-ordinator assistant. This is a six-week summer job starting July 1 and is open to applicants under 30. It’s a 30 hour a week position combining on site and remote work. Contact [email protected].

Have a great week. Contact me [email protected].
