The Pender Harbour Lions Club invites the community to celebrate all things garlic at its second annual Garlic Festival this weekend.
The festival runs on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lions Park in Pender Harbour.
The festival is a good old-fashioned family fun event with horseback riding, haywagon rides, children's playground, continuous live music (this year featuring Valdy), many garlic and other vendors, food concessions and other activities.
The funds are used to help community organizations, local people in need, student bursaries and to maintain the beautiful Lions Park facilities.
The Pender Harbour Lions Club is a non-political and non-religious group and is part of Lions International (lionsclubs.org), that is the world's largest service organization which performs humanitarian work throughout the world.
This event is a fundraiser for the club. The Lions generate funds from pancake breakfasts, renting the Lions Park and hall, and donations and profits from the Garlic Festival.
