The Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is now open summer weekends to the public, Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Come for a stroll, bring a picnic, or take a tour. Bring your family, your off-Coast visitors, your church or other group, or just come yourself for some quiet time in a natural setting. Guided tours are provided each Sunday at 2 p.m. leaving from the parking lot. Special group tours can be arranged at other times. Enter at Gate 4, the main parking lot.

New this year is the native plant garden, a work-in-progress. Come see the sustainable gardening practices used to work with nature to make planting beds and deal with invasive plants. We have easy-to-make compost bins along the paths and in the vegetable garden. The vegetable garden is always a treat to visit, with all the produce going to the Food Bank.

Each year some new vegetable varieties are grown, and a broad range of old favourites too. The vegetable team is always looking for more help (Monday and Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.), and there is no better way to learn to grow your own than to work alongside an experienced gardener.

The seniors garden consists of raised beds suitable for gardening while standing or sitting, using a walker or a wheelchair. The seniors welcome new participants, and no gardening experience is needed. Drop in on a Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. to join this cheery group.

Admission to the garden is by donation. Every dollar counts as the Garden Society builds the garden. The more people who visit, the more who will enjoy, learn and participate in the Botanical Garden.
