There will be fun for all ages next weekend as the Lagoon Society hosts its third annual Sunshine Coast BioBlitz and Family Fun Days.
Community members of all ages are warmly invited to join in the festivities at the Iris Griffith Centre from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday Aug. 27 and 28.
Discover the diversity of life all around us by helping local naturalists and scientists to find and identify species as they venture to nearby oceanfront areas to undertake an intertidal and ocean bioblitz. Learn more about the many creatures that inhabit this special zone where land and sea come together.
Enjoy tremendous family fun at the Iris Griffith Centre, with entertaining activities, games and prizes for children, including a nature scavenger hunt, pond dipping, face painting, bean bag toss, planting, painting, and more. As an added treat, learn more about native plants, as local botanical expert Harry Hill leads a special workshop starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Of course, no celebration would be complete without music and food. Enjoy wonderful live music by Sweet Cacadia and Reg Dickson. Delight in a delicious barbecue on Saturday and yummy breakfast on Sunday (free food for kids under 12).
The Iris Griffith Centre is located at 15386 Sunshine Coast Highway, one km south of Ruby Lake. To learn more about the centre and bioblitz, visit www.lagoonsociety.com or call 604-883-9201.
