Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) and BowWow Coast invite you to celebrate the grand opening of the Sunshine Coast’s first and only park space designated just for dogs – on Saturday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shirley Macey Park, 930 Chamberlain Rd. in Gibsons.
Get ready for fun dog contests and games, informative demonstrations, all natural doggy cake (and a people cake), a ribbon/leash cutting ceremony, vendors and exhibitors from local dog-friendly community businesses and services, music and prizes. The free event goes on, rain or shine.
Two important initiatives will be held at the event to assist pets displaced by the recent Fort McMurray fires. Local first responders will run a hot dog barbecue, with all monies going to Alberta Rescues, the SPCA and Humane Societies to help in their efforts to care for the many newly-homeless pets. There will also be goodie bags to the first 50 people who bring a donation of pet food or other pet supplies for Fort Mac pets.
The SCRD has put in a great deal of effort to make the park an awesome place for dogs to hang out with their folks. There are trees all the way around, and the area is easily accessible. The SCRD has created walking trails in the forest, and there are benches, tables, toilets, signage and water.
Come celebrate everything dog! Meet new dog folks, dog friends and dog-loving businesses. Thank our first responders. And support our displaced fur friends in Alberta.
