Come enjoy a free outdoor concert and fireworks to mark Sechelt’s 30th anniversary as a district on Canada Day, July 1, starting at 8 p.m. at Rotary Friendship Park.
The park is located at the foot of Wharf Avenue in Sechelt and it overlooks the Trail Bay waterfront, where the fireworks finale will take place once it’s dark enough.
Mayor Bruce Milne invites members of the public to bring their own lawn chairs and beach blankets to enjoy the evening of family-friendly fun.
In addition to the free party in the park, Sechelt will celebrate 30 worthy community contributors in honour of its 30th anniversary this year.
The district has launched the Community Contributor Awards and asks residents to nominate individuals for consideration before the July 1 event.
Nominees must be individuals who “as volunteers, community members, entrepreneurs or employees, have made contributions to the development of the identity, sense of community, neighbourhoods or services within the District of Sechelt, in the period from July 1986 to present.”
The award would suit a community leader, builder or someone whose involvement in an event, program or service has created benefits for Sechelt residents.
To nominate someone, download the nomination application from www.sechelt.ca and submit it by the end of the month to [email protected]
A recognition event to honour winners will be held in the fall.
