Get out and celebrate Canada Day this July 1 with events in Sechelt and Gibsons.

Celebrations start in Sechelt at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast near Gilli-gan’s Pub before the parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m.

The parade route starts on Cowrie Street beside the District of Sechelt offices, runs down Cowrie to Inlet Avenue and then onto Dolphin Street before ending at Hackett Park.

More fun happens at Hackett Park at 11:30 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. There will be free entertainment, children’s activities, a beer garden, craft fair and food vendors as well as a firefighter competition to be held in the tennis courts from 1 to 4 p.m.

Also from 1 to 4 p.m., a talent show will be held across from the park at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre.

At noon head over to The Dock on Cowrie Street for the official cake cutting and opening ceremony and then enjoy more family fun on Cowrie with free entertainment and music, food vendors and a family-friendly craft beer festival, running until 7 p.m.

At 8 p.m., in honour of Canada Day and Sechelt’s 30th anniversary as a district, there will be a free outdoor concert at Rotary Friendship Park, located at the foot of Wharf Avenue overlooking Trail Bay.

Following the outdoor concert will be a fireworks display at about 10 p.m. in Trail Bay.

Gibsons will kick off its celebrations at 2 p.m. with the singing of O Canada and speeches by dignitaries in Winegarden Park.

Guests will then enjoy music by Charlotte Wrinch, the Billy Hill-picker Band and High Jingo on the stage at the park, as well as a Tai Chi demonstration.

Gibsons celebrations wrap up at 5 p.m.
