Perennial champions of Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society’s April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge, the Fireflies (Bruno Cote, Kerry Rand, Sawyer Cote, Ray Miron), once again triumphed last Saturday. But perennial challengers –– the Gunboat Bay Challenger (Jan Verwey, Trina M’Lot, Alisha M’Lot, Sam Chamberlayne) –– came in a very close second. First-time team Cold Plungers (Sarah Boland, Teryn Emslie, Allison Radich and Olivia Chang) came in third.
A “tugboat” twist saw the eight adult teams build boats with provided materials and then they were tasked with getting to the finish line without tangling their ropes or losing their log loads.
In the youth races, The 3 Mics (Emma Valli, Christian Torres, Daphne Taylor – Grades 10 and 11) came in first, followed by Lightning Sharks (Zoe Benjamin, Alex Ruth, Roman White – Scouts) and The Hyperpigmentations (Sierra McRae, Violet Jenkins, Calla Campbell, Pedro Torres –– Grade 7).
