Did you know that the single biggest action you can take to reduce your carbon footprint is to choose active transportation? This is one of the many reasons Transportation Choices (TraC) celebrates Active Transportation Weeks each year with fun community events to get you out walking, biking, scootering, skating … any form of “people-powered” transportation.

We know it can be challenging to reduce our reliance on cars here on the Coast, so let’s get creative, have some fun, and support each other developing active transportation habits. For our health, and the planet’s!

Participating in Active Transportation Weeks is also a powerful way to show our “critical mass,” and demonstrate to our leaders that we want and need more sidewalks, safe bike lanes and increased options for low-carbon transportation.

Enjoy any of the events we have planned from Sept. 25 to Oct. 10, or get together with friends, family or colleagues to create your own active fun. Check out our calendar of events at www.transportationchoices.ca, like Sufferfest III, Photo Scavenger Hunt, Bike Polo, a Musical Bike Night Ride, and many more.

Consider joining with people across the province who are committing to riding their bikes to work or school during these weeks, and log your trips at www.gobybikebc.ca. You can win great prizes including a cycling adventure for two to France, but to be eligible for the contests you must register by Sept. 10.

Keep an eye out for our TraC Celebration Stations on Monday and Friday mornings from 7 to 9 a.m. in Gibsons and Sechelt. We’ll have free snacks and refreshments to share while we cheer you on your way to work or school! Contact [email protected] for more information.
