A second day of listening

Building on the success of its first day of listening event, the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives is hosting a second event on Friday, Jan. 21.

This is your chance to interview someone special in your life and have their stories recorded for the future. One-hour sessions are planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum in Gibsons.

In November, the museum, in collaboration with Christenson Village, hosted the first day of listening. It was a chance for participants to interview someone special and have the conversation recorded with professional audio equipment. The event was a resounding success - all of the time slots were booked up in advance and the participants raved about their experience.

"Essentially we record a conversation between two people who are important to each other: a son asking his mother about her childhood, an newcomer telling a friend about moving to the Coast, or a couple reminiscing about how they first met," said museum manager/curator Kimiko Hawkes. "After the recording session, we will burn a CD with your recorded conversation on it (or transfer it to a USB memory stick-user provided) for you to take home and share or to keep for the future. A day of listening is about honouring and celebrating the lives of people by listening to their stories. Our goal is to inspire people to record and preserve the stories of someone important to them."
