A new season for book fairs

This Saturday, June 22, celebrates the beginning of the second season of book fairs at the Sechelt Public Library.

This Saturday, June 22, celebrates the beginning of the second season of book fairs at the Sechelt Public Library.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization, the book fairs will be held every second week throughout the summer from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to coincide with the Sechelt Farmers' Market outside on Cowrie Street. Other dates: July 6 and 20, Aug. 3, 17 and 31, and Sept. 14. This Saturday's book fair will not be affected by the District of Sechelt labour dispute.

There is always a wide and diverse selection of fiction and non-fiction at bargain prices -thanks to the generosity of Sunshine Coast readers who continue to recycle their books. Where else can you fill a library bag with quality books for only $25? The book fairs are also popular with children who walk out clutching stacks of treasures to their chests.

Starting Saturday there will be gift certificates available as well as tickets for the Friends' yearly raffle that features great prizes like a food basket, a water tour of Sechelt Inlet, a round of golf for four, and restaurant gift cards. Money raised by the Friends is used to help the chief librarian run programs and buy specialized equipment for the library beyond what is supported by the core operating budget.

If you have well-cared-for books that you would like to contribute, please bring your items to the box marked "donations" in the foyer of the library near the elevator.

If you would like to help out, organizers need people to help sort books on designated days, and appreciate strong bodies to bring the books to the library the day before the sale and return them to the locker afterwards.
