The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service has been called to assist Surrey RCMP with an investigation into the death of a pedestrian.

One person is dead and another is injured after a collision in Surrey.

Police officers responded to a motor vehicle collision in the Newton neighbourhood on 138th Street at 2:39 a.m. on Friday.

Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha says one person was declared deceased on scene and an additional person was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police previously stated the person who died was a pedestrian, but corrected this to say the individual was an occupant in the vehicle.

"Based on initial observations and the report received by police, the deceased person was believed to have been a pedestrian," says Sangha.

"Through further investigation it has been determined that the deceased person was actually passenger who was ejected from the vehicle."

The driver was on scene when police officers arrived in the 7300 block of 138th Street.

"Traffic in the area will be affected for an undetermined amount of time as officers continue their investigation," said Honeyman.

A section of 138th between 74 Avenue and 72A Avenue will be closed as police investigate the collision.

The public are requested to avoid the area until further notice.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service has been called to assist Surrey RCMP with the investigation.

Investigators are looking for video from the incident and anyone with dash camera footage or surveillance footage is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2023-204342.
