Roche's Catholic show

David Roche, inspirational humourist, presents his show on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, 5714 Medusa at Trail Ave. in Sechelt.

Catholic Erotica: Be Proud of Your Shame! is a light-hearted and humorous romp through the dark forest of guilt and shame into the sunlight of the enjoyment of life. Roche's facial disfigurement had a relatively benign effect on his sexual development - at least compared to being raised Catholic.

Catholic Erotica is both edgy and warm.Audience isthere when eight-year-old David makes his first confession and tells the priest he has committed adultery 11 times! By the end of Catholic Erotica, you will be better able to understand recovering Catholics.

This is the last local show before Roche's U.K. tour. Advance tickets for $10 are at MELOmania in Roberts Creek, Lucy's and Sechelt Visitor Centre in Sechelt. Tickets at the door are $15.

Mining or Murder

St. Hilda's Church in Sechelt is hosting a presentation on Mining orMurder in Guatemala - the Canadian Connection, this Sunday at 1 p.m.

It will be led by the Rev. Emilie Smith, Anglican priest, with 28 years ofexperience walking with the people of Guatemala. For the last threeyears, Smith has been living in Santa Cruz del Quiché in theGuatemalan highlands and is the founder of Peace House, a place ofgathering and hospitality. Smith will discuss how Canadian mining companies are wreaking havoc inGuatemala. There will also be a craft table, featuring wonderful crafts from anumber of women's co-operatives, and a delicious selection of fair trade coffee.

Music in the Landing

Gibsons' Music in the Landing is back this weekend.

Tonight (Friday) from 7 to 8 p.m. in the gazebo at the end of the wharf features singer, songwriter and sailor, Lowry Olafsonand friends.

Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Pioneer Square will feature young and talentedmusicians Axel Loitz and Connor Lindsay, guitars and vocals, followed by singing troubadourMathew Lovegrove from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.next to Leo's Restaurant.

On Saturday from 7 to 8:45 p.m. in Winegarden Water-front Park, Celso Machado, an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, will take the stage for a special evening of international music.

The Knotty Dotters, seven women playing infectious and joyous rhythms on marimbas and drums, will play Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. under the Winegarden bus shelter across from the Sunday Market. Again this year for BC Dayon Monday, there will be a musical party in Winegarden Park from 1 to 2:30 p.m. with singer/songwriter Gaetan Bergevin, Boyd Norman, Patrice Pollack and more. Bring a picnicand celebrate the holiday with live musicoutdoors.

PechaKucha in the Park on Aug. 25 (part of the Synchronicity Festival) has space for two or three more people to present 20 images about their passion. The catch? Harmony Arts

The Harmony Arts Festival is on in West Van-couver from Aug. 3 to 12.

Coast artist Brian Romer will be in the invitational Showcase Exhibition at the Ferry Building Gallery in Ambleside. This show runs from Aug. 3 to 19 (with the opening reception this Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.).
