Kick off the New Year

All four Legions on the Coast are hosting New Year’s Eve events.

• In Pender Harbour, Playback frolics with the rocking hits of yesteryear at the Legion in Madeira Park with doors opening at 7, hors d’oeuvres at 7:30 and prime rib dinner at 8. Dancing until 1 a.m. Tickets are advance only for $65 person and $120 a couple. Get yours at Harbour Insurance or at the Legion.

• At the Sechelt Legion doors open at 7 p.m. for dancing with Dave’s Not Here. Tickets are $35 and include party favours, appetizers and champagne at midnight. (Phone 604-885-2526.)

• Roberts Creek Legion starts at 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Dec. 31 with DJs Busy B (Hip-Hop/R&B), Sylvester (Funk/Reggae), Octivate (Melodic House). Members are $15 and guests with members, $25. Complimentary champagne, balloon drop and snack at midnight. Advance ticket sales at the Roberts Creek Legion.

• Gibsons Legion New Year’s Eve has two bands: The Relics play in the Lounge and the Marwills in the Hall. Show starts at 8 until 1 a.m. Snacks at 10 p.m. and champagne at midnight for $25 members or $30 non-members. Tickets available at Gibsons Legion. (Phone 604-886-2411.)

NYE in the Creek

“Come as You’ve Always Wanted” is the theme for New Year’s Eve in the Creek. It’s at the Roberts Creek Community Hall on Saturday, Dec. 31 starting at 9 p.m. (Doors open at 8). The party and dance offers four DJs throughout the night: Jason Whyte, Robby Luvdub, DJ Deano and Aerion. Have you always wanted to go to an event dressed up in costume to the nines, fancy dress or possibly super hero or villain? Then this is your event. Dress up as you’ve always wanted and show off for the night. Come dance and have a great time, letting loose on the dance floor. Let your friends know you’re going: (#NYEinTheCreek). Creek Christmas

No plans for Christmas day? Come to the 18th annual Community Potluck Dinner at the Roberts Creek Hall on Sunday, December 25. Dinner is put together in-kind by the community, businesses and volunteers. Everyone is welcome. Doors open at 4 p.m.; dinner at 5:30. Turkey with stuffing, gravy, potatoes, and carrots will be provided. Please bring a potluck dish to share and your own plates and cutlery. Helper Elves are needed for setup, food prep and cleanup. This year Djembe Mama will also be hosting a music jam to follow dinner, so please bring your instrument along with your Christmas spirit.

FOG Time

The Sunshine Coast Arts Council starts off the year with their annual Friends of the Gallery (FOG) Exhibit. You must be a member of the Sunshine Coast Arts Council and submit a work created during the previous year. Last year 98 different Sunshine Coast artists participated in the event with diverse submissions in the visual arts. Take the opportunity to see what your favourite artists have been up to. Interested in being part of the exhibition? Come to the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, Monday, January 2 between 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with a work completed during 2016. You can also download the entry form from the website: www.suncoastartscouncil.com. The exhibition runs from Wednesday, Jan. 4 to 29. MOTET Concert

Eight voices. Twelve days. Come experience the fullness of Christmas with a concert of beautiful choral and organ music. From the sounds of Orlando Gibbons to favourites by Sir David Willcocks to a new carol by Thomas Hewitt Jones, join MOTET Chamber Choir as they celebrate this most wonderful time of year and let them take you on a musical journey to Epiphany. Celtic at Persephone

Finish the year with Celtic fiddle and guitar music at Persephone’s Brewing on Friday, Dec. 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30. The beer company is at 1053 Stewart Road, Gibsons.

Messiah Choir

The Messiah Choir concert had to be postponed on Friday, Dec. 9 because of the snowy weather but it will be performed again on Epiphany, Jan. 6, at St. John’s United Church, Davis Bay. If you already have a ticket for the postponed performance, then you’re in luck. Tickets can also be purchased through Sechelt Visitor Centre, Laedeli Gifts or by phoning 604-885-9015.
