Community members are invited to join the Sunshine Coast Wildlife Project to build wildlife homes to help species at risk. Three upcoming workshops will allow residents to build their own bat houses, mason bee homes or owl, duck or swallow nest boxes from easy-to-assemble kits with the assistance of Wildlife Project volunteers. Those who already have mason bee homes can bring in their bee tubes or blocks for help cleaning their cocoons and guidance on winter care of the bees.

Wildlife workshops will take place on Friday, Oct. 26, 3 to 7 p.m. at the One Straw Fall Faire at Roberts Creek Community Hall; on Saturday, Oct. 27, noon to 4 p.m. at the Iris Griffith Nature Centre; and on Nov. 3, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cooper’s Green Hall in Halfmoon Bay. Community members can drop by any time during these events. It takes about half an hour to build a box.

People can also stop by to chat about wildlife issues and learn how to get involved in habitat stewardship and wildlife monitoring activities. For more information, see www.facebook.com/coastwildlife, email [email protected] or phone 604-989-1007.
