Late winter is the time to prune many shrubs, ornamental trees, and fruit trees. Join arbourist Cheryl Topping for one or both workshops offered by the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden this month.

Saturday, Jan. 26 at noon at the Botanical Garden, the emphasis is on maintaining beautiful, healthy trees and shrubs through pruning. You’ll learn how each cut encourages a particular response, helping you know how and where to make cuts, as well as how to choose the right tool. This session is by donation at the door, $15 suggested.

On Sunday, Jan. 27 at noon, Topping will lead a hands-on demonstration with emphasis on fruit trees, at a private garden in Roberts Creek. You must pre-register to receive the address – space is very limited. The cost of this session is $15 for Botanical Garden members, $20 for non-members.

Register or enquire by phone 604-740-3969 or email [email protected]. Bring your own secateurs or hand-pruners if you wish.

Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is at 5941 Mason Road, and is open four days a week during winter, Friday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., entrance by donation. Members enjoy unlimited visits plus many extra perks. For information, see www.coastbotanicalgarden.org
