It’s time for the annual Seedy Saturday event, this Saturday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with early bird workshops from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Roberts Creek Community Hall and the Masonic Hall next door.

The event is hosted by the local non-profit One Straw Society in partnership with Sunshine Coast Seed Collective, Roberts Creek Farm Gate Market, Roberts Creek Community Market and Grandmothers and Grandothers.

Carpooling is encouraged and recommended through www.share-there.com.

The main event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in both halls with local non-GMO seed vendors with other locally-crafted, value-added products available for sale.

Seedy Saturday will also feature a community seed exchange (bring your seeds to trade), a live plant sale, information from local organizations, live music and warm, healthy food available in the kitchen.

Workshops will include seed bracelet making at 1 p.m. as well as two early bird, seed-related workshops at the Masonic Hall from 9 to 11 a.m.: Planting Seeds and Community with Mojave Kaplan, and Growing Medicinal Herbs and Their Seeds with Rupert Adams.

These workshops are sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Seed Collective and are offered by donation. The Grandmothers and GrandOthers will also have some nice treats available for sale throughout the day.

Entrance fee is a recommended $2 donation with an opportunity to donate $5, $10 or $20 to be entered into great door prize draws. There is no bank machine onsite, so please bring cash.

To volunteer for the event, sign up as a vendor or to donate to the tool swap shop, live plant sale or door prizes, contact event coordinator Nicole Mckay: [email protected].

The intention of this event is to create a gathering space for the community to participate in a communal seed exchange prior to planting season with local farmers and artisans, and enjoy freshly prepared food, treats, kids’ activities, information booths, workshops and speakers.

All proceeds raised during go to support the efforts and future endeavours of One Straw Society (www.onestraw.ca).
