Free income tax preparation

Volunteers

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program – sponsored by Canada Revenue Agency and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) – operates from March 1 to April 30.

Volunteers will complete simple tax returns, free of charge, for low-income clients.  Income limits are: individual $30,000, couple $40,000, individual with a dependant $35,000 (plus $2,500 for each additional dependant). The program does not serve clients with employment expenses, self-employment income, rental property income, or capital gains. Interest income must be less than $1,000.

There are three options for eligible clients:

•Tax clinic option. By appointment, client and volunteer meet to e-file tax return. Gibsons & District Public Library, Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments: 604-886-2130. VCH Home Care Office, in Sechelt, Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments: 604-741-0726. Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments: 604-885-3513 or 604-885-8910.

•Drop-off/pick-up option. Clients drop off all their tax information, including T-slips, and fill out the Client Intake and TIS60 Authorization Forms at the following locations.  Volunteers then carefully complete and e-file each client’s tax return, usually within one week. Clients are notified when their copies are ready to be picked up.

VCH Home Care office, 5630 Inlet Ave., Sechelt, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. VCH Health Unit, 494 South Fletcher St., Gibsons, Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

•Walk-in clinic and drop-off/pick-up options in Madeira Park. Locations are the Community School, 5012 Gonzales Rd., Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and the Health Centre, 5066 Francis Peninsula Rd., Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to noon (or by appointment in Madeira Park; call 604-741-5132).
