The Sunshine Coast Community Foundation will be the local administrator of a new federal funding opportunity for charities and non-profits impacted by COVID-19.

On April 21, Ottawa announced the creation of the $350-million Emergency Community Support Fund. Community Foundations of Canada, United Way Centraide Canada, and Canadian Red Cross were named as three intermediaries that will partner with the federal government to deliver this funding.

On the Sunshine Coast, community agencies that are experiencing an increased demand for their services can apply by visiting www.sccfoundation.com.

The maximum grant available is $75,000.

Eligible projects can include ongoing programs that meet the eligibility criteria.

Successful projects or programs must:

• Address a pressing social inclusion or well-being need caused by COVID-19.

• Serve one or more vulnerable groups.

• Be carried out in a short time frame with a reasonable budget.

Applications must be received by July 27. A committee of board members from the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation will review each application and make funding recommendations weekly. Grants will be awarded through Community Foundations of Canada.

The federal fund is in addition to the local COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund established by the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation. The relief fund continues to accept applications for grants of up to $5,000 to support emergency response efforts.

For more information about either of these granting programs, visit www.sccfoundation.com or call 604-741-7360.
