Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. The weather cooperated for the most part and hope that you were able to get out and enjoy some fresh air.

Halfmoon Bay is a small community with only a few businesses with public access or storefronts. The HMB General Store, the HMB Café, Welcome Woods Market, the Halfmoon Bay Nursery, and Kym’s Plants to name a few, are open, safe and welcoming. There are some home-based businesses that are popping up here and there and I thought I would share some with you for the next few weeks.

Heather, owner and founder of Peak Bake Shop, her husband, their two wonderful children and a fluffy dog named Norm, moved here in April of 2019. Heather is a fisheries technician, now a stay-at-home mom, with a huge love of baking. “I have always enjoyed baking and creating delicious desserts. I especially enjoy creating cakes inspired by nature.” Heather first started selling cupcakes while at university studying fisheries biology. She found it to be a great way to continue to be creative and it helped pay for some textbooks. She said, “At work, while wading through streams and scaling mountains, I found inspiration for my cake decorations. Putting my biology career on pause to stay home with my kids, I have found myself in the kitchen baking up scenes of river beds instead of studying them.” Heather would love to share her yummy treats with the community, and it would be her pleasure to “make you something delicious and beautiful for your special occasion.” She is having a blast doing something she loves! Heather makes cakes, cupcakes, pies, tarts and any baked goodie you would like to order. Visit her website at peakbakeshop.com or Facebook page, where you can connect with her and place your order. Welcome to the community, Heather, and happy baking!

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association is continuing to work very hard at reaching their goal of $300,000 which will go towards the new Coopers Green Hall. Don Cunliffe, one of the fundraising team members, advised that, “The fundraising team recently developed a plan to deliver on the remaining $50,000 for the new Hall.” They are reaching out to local businesses and organizations to donate what they can towards this amazing new facility for the community. Residents are also encouraged to donate if they can or help with some fundraising tasks should they have some time they can spare. “Donations of $500 or more will be recognized on a wall-mounted display in the new Hall and donations over $100 will receive a tax receipt from the SCRD.” The Association would like to thank all those who have contributed thus far and are very appreciative of all the support received from the community and beyond. If you would like to donate or would like to volunteer, please contact Don Cunliffe at [email protected] or call 604-740-0833.
