Roberts Creek: Time keeps on slippin’…

Into the future we go, September already and I am a column behind. Time got away from me last week but that’s OK. I will share a bit of wisdom I received lately. In difficult times, move forward in small steps.

Into the future we go, September already and I am a column behind. Time got away from me last week but that’s OK. I will share a bit of wisdom I received lately. In difficult times, move forward in small steps. Do what you have to do, but little by little. Don’t fret about the future, or what may happen tomorrow. Wash the dishes. Remove the dust. Write a letter. Make a soup. You see? You are advancing step by step. Take a step and stop. Rest a little. Praise yourself. Take another step. Then another. You won’t notice, but your steps will grow more and more.

On to the #219 ... you know the drill (rclegionevents.com, 2-6 per table, doors at 4 p.m., done by 8:30, unless it’s a 2 p.m. matinee). Rescheduled from August it’s local super-group, Georgia Fats, on Friday, Sept. 4. Saturday the 5th, The Quadra Ramblers keep traditional music alive! The duo of Mark Shields (fiddle/vocals) and Kaitlin Chamberlin (banjo/vocals) draw from Appalachian and Celtic traditions to get your toes tapping. Sunday the 6th matinee (2 p.m.) The VanRays bring a Motown beat and a nod to Otis Redding and James Brown.

Coming next weekend ... Friday the 11th, klezmer-punk Geoff Berner arrives on our front lawn to regale us with his 8th studio album, Grand Hotel Cosmopolis.

Saturday Sept. 12, Small Town Artillery, rock with a horn section (Don, never tell the trombone to play louder), originally from Kaslo, now based out of Vancouver, are looking forward to their Sunshine Coast debut.

Sunday 13th Matinee has The Burying Ground filtering prewar blues, early jazz and American rural folk music traditions into their own stellar material. This year The Burying Ground released their fourth album, A Look Back. Performing as a quartet this show, Woody Forster and Devora Laye are joined by Clara Rose (fiddle/harmonies) and Wynston Minckler (upright bass).
