Pender Harbour & Egmont: Harbourside Friendships and other comebacks

The quiet town of Madeira Park is awakening! Java Docks is open and what a welcome sight to see our unofficial mayor and board of directors gathering at social distances discussing the ways of our world (i.e. Harbour gossip?).

PENDER FOOD BANK: Yoka and Bill Wright of the Pender Harbour Food Bank stand beside the new cooler recently obtained thanks to a COVID-related grant from the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation. The grant also enabled the Food Bank to purchase a new freezer and shelving, which was greatly in need. “Your kindness, caring and generosity are appreciated to the fullest,” said Lyn and Bill Charlton of the Pender Harbour Food and Fundraising Task Force in a thank you message to the Community Foundation. “Also, thank you to all those who helped move the 400-pound cooler into the Food Bank, including members of the Pender Harbour Fire Department. We are all so fortunate to live on the Sunshine Coast.”

The Clubhouse at the Pender Harbour Golf Course will be open as of June 1. We look forward to the warm welcome from Mike and his lovely family.

There is a fantastic offering of delicious delights for take out from many restaurants as well as patio dining. Mama’s Japanese Kitchen, Aquí Es México, Grasshopper Pub, take out only, and Tamales To Go, take home.

You can order pet food for pickup from Amy’s Doggy Spa & Pet Food; and she is grooming too! Amy is now here in the heart of Madeira Park.

The Skookumchuck Bakery & Café has a new weekly event for this season, Croissant Sunday! This week the special is “pain au chocolat.”

The finest and friendliest thrift store on the Coast, The Bargain Barn, will have a pop-up store at The Hall, Wednesdays and Saturdays through the month of June. You can shop their eBay store 24/7. Check their website for updates.

Bright news this week is the return of Harbourside Friendships. There will be small get togethers outside in the gardens behind the Community Hall, with the number of folks limited. For those who would like to join in, please call Marlene at 604-883-9900 to reserve a spot. Harbourside Friendships is a great way to get back to enjoying the company of others.

Pender Harbour has joined the Dear Coastal Neighbour Letter-Writing Campaign. The mailbox is at the Health Centre where letters can be dropped off to be distributed up and down the Coast. If you know someone who would benefit from receiving a letter, contact Marlene.

How about something incredibly special to look forward to? Strong Water Tours in Egmont is happy to announce they are resuming tours to Princess Louisa Inlet and the Skookumchuck Shuttle starting the July long weekend. The 24-foot Zodiac can take up to eight family members or six physically distanced guests. Book now to avoid disappointment.

COVID-19 updates, changes to essential and non-essential business and services in the Pender Harbour area are available on the PHARA.ca website. Please send any updates you may have to PHARA president Peter Robson at 604-883-9205 or email [email protected]

Take care everyone. Be safe, be calm, polite and patient. This is Phase 2 of the pandemic and we all must abide by the protocol of our government health authorities. We are in this together and in it to win it.
