Welcome to September! Huge thanks and great appreciation to all those overworked folks on the front lines in stores, restaurants, resorts and services through the Harbour and Egmont. You performed in fine style going the distance during the busiest and most demanding tourist season yet.

Bring your dog, It’s a pawty! Paws in the Park, Sunday, Sept. 8. Join the BC SPCA Sunshine Coast Branch at Hackett Park for a fun-filled, family and canine-friendly afternoon celebrating the animals we love, with fun and games, silent auction, food and beer garden. This inaugural event is a very important fundraiser supporting our branch.

Do you love to sing? The Pender Harbour Community Choir begins its 46th season with an introductory month of free membership for new recruits. There are no auditions and no formal training is required. The first practice is Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the School of Music. Get busy with September activities brought to you by Seniors Initiative: Mondays walking group 10:30 a.m., chair yoga, Tuesdays Sept. 11 and 18 at Sarah Wray Hall 10:30 a.m., carpet bowling Wednesdays, 1 p.m., chair yoga, Fridays 10:30 a.m. All activities at PH Hall except Tuesday yoga, drop in is $3. Harbourside Friendship Thursday, Sept. 13 will be a picture show of past seniors activities. Come to the PH Hall at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon. Drop in is $10.

Get creative this fall at Sarah Wray Hall with instructor Shelley Stunell. Classes include colour pencil and acrylic painting.

A cedar basket weaving workshop will be held Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Learn how to weave a 10-inch basket with Coast Salish weaver Jessica Silvey. Register at PenderHarbourHeritage.ca.

Pender Harbour Music Society’s Coffee House Friday, Sept. 13 will once again welcome fantastic local performers including Katrina Bishop, Kozlof Girls, Roger Maidens and Sokole. Doors open at 7 p.m., music at 7:30 p.m. at the School of Music. Suggested donation $10 at the door. For info, please call 604-883-9749.

The PHMS fall season begins Sunday, Sept. 16 with Adi Braun, classical trained singer, performing cabaret classics and much loved jazz standards, her true musical passion. Tickets at Harbour Insurance, Sechelt Visitors Centre and online at www.penderharbourmusic.ca where you can check out other great concerts.

Do remember when out on the water the rules for whale watching and approaching marine mammals provide a minimum approach distance of 100 metres for most whales, dolphins and porpoises to legally protect these animals from human disturbances. Lets all wish J50, Scarlet the very best for recovery to full health.
