Hi everyone! Happy December! Hope you all had a wonderful week. Seems like we have some little elves in Halfmoon Bay.

The seasonally adjusted deer crossing sign along Redrooffs near Fawn Road provides a little much-needed cheer.

Hi everyone! Happy December! Hope you all had a wonderful week.

Seems like we have some little elves in Halfmoon Bay. The deer crossing road sign, currently posing as Rudolph, has been decorated for the holiday season by one or some Christmas decorating enthusiast(s). The sign is just past Fawn Road heading south along Redrooffs Road. I drove by it the other day and it made me smile. We sure need a little joy right about now, so hoping you will see this sign as you drive by and it will make you smile as well. Thank-you to those (or one) responsible for being so thoughtful and creative and helping to brighten our day!

The HMB Community School would like to thank the Halfmoon Bay Community Association for all the work they are doing with their Families in Need campaign. Wendy said, “Currently we are running a modest breakfast program making sure to adhere to the strictest safety protocols while still making sure our kids start their school day with full bellies and ready to learn.” After Christmas the program will offer a more substantial breakfast, possibly including smoothies and oatmeal. Wendy said that “COVID-19 has taken a toll on many of us and, while the holidays will look different this year, this campaign will help to keep the magic of the Christmas spirit alive for so many.”

Included with the Families in Need funds raised will be Christmas hampers made and shoeboxes filled with goodies and essentials. Grade 6 and 7 students fill the shoeboxes with a variety of items such as toys, handmade gifts, and personal hygiene products. Volunteers fill the hampers and distribute before Christmas so families can enjoy some awesome food, treats and gifts.

On Dec. 9, the school is hosting its annual Kids Christmas Shopping Day where children can shop for members of their family. This Student Council initiative helps collect donations from the community of gently used gift items. Kids can browse through the items and select a gift for each member of their family. The volunteers are asking for gift bags, so if you have any extra, they would really appreciate them. Please call or email Wendy at 604-551-8461 or [email protected] if you can help.

The total funds raised so far for the Families in Need campaign is $3,285 with the goal being $5,000 raised before Christmas. Any donation amount is very much appreciated! Visit the gofundme Families in Need page on Facebook to make your donation. Thank you to Jay, Terry, Wendy and all the little elves for making this special time of year better for families in the community.

Halfmoon Bay residents John and Lynn Smith (Hiballer Marine) are organizing the 1st Annual Halfmoon Bay/Secret Cove Christmas Sail Pass on Sunday, Dec. 20. Decorate your boat with lights and bobbles and join in this very festive adventure. The cruise will begin at Secret Cove, travel to Merry Island and back to Secret Cove. Round trip will take approximately two hours with a slow cruise along the shoreline of Halfmoon Bay. Spectators are welcome as well, so gather the family (your own household please) and watch from the shoreline or the comfort of your home. As this is December and we are at the mercy of what Mother Nature will present to us, this Sail Pass is weather dependent. More details to follow. If you have a boat and would like to join in the cruise, send an email to Lynn at [email protected]. Type 2020 Sail Pass in the subject line. All COVID-19 safety protocols will be strictly adhered to.

Have your “Say at the Bay,” please contact me before 5 p.m. on Mondays. [email protected]. Be kind, be gentle, be safe.
