Expect Redrooffs Road to be busy Sunday – it’s Halfmoon Bay Fair weekend.

HMB Country Fair starts Saturday, July 13 with the traditional Kids’ Fishing Derby on the wharf 10 to 11 a.m., sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Café and General Store. Meet at the store at 9:45 a.m. Always wonderful to watch these youngsters get their fishing experience. Prizes are given and everyone gets hot dogs and a drink at 11:30 outside the Café.

Saturday evening is the BBQ sockeye salmon dinner and dance at Coopers Green with music by Playback. Tickets for $35 are at Halfmoon Bay General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Pastimes.

Dinner at 6 p.m., music at 7:30 p.m.. This event always sells out. A limited number of dinner-only tickets for $20 will be sold at the door.

All the fun at the Country Fair is in Coopers Green Park July 14. The Healthcare Auxiliary puts on a wonderful breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Centre Stage showcases the talents of our local musicians from noon until close at 5 p.m. Over 30 artisans, potters, painters, crafters and booths explaining what’s happening in Halfmoon Bay will be set up; take a look at the new proposed Community Hall for Coopers Green. There will be lots of kids’ games, hosted by HMB Elementary School and Child Daycare, plus donkey rides, bingo, cake walk, and – new this year – panning for gold. Great eats will  be put on by the HMB Volunteer Fire Department – burgers and hot dogs. Prizes are offered all day at the Fair, plus a fantastic silent auction.

On Sunday, July 14 at Coopers Green Park, the boat launch is not closed, but do expect delays. It would be best to use Buccaneer Marina or Selma Park if you can. We do have volunteers to help with directing traffic. And RCMSAR and HMB Volunteer Fire Department are on hand.

To have your say at the Bay, contact me, before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or 604-885-5034.
