B.C. reports 867 new COVID-19 cases, highest daily total since April

VICTORIA — The trend for COVID-19 infections in British Columbia continues upward with 867 new cases, the highest daily total in about four months. Three more people have died, while 159 people are in hospital and 84 of those are in intensive care.

VICTORIA — The trend for COVID-19 infections in British Columbia continues upward with 867 new cases, the highest daily total in about four months.

Three more people have died, while 159 people are in hospital and 84 of those are in intensive care.

There are 5,657 active cases in the province and nearly 39 per cent of those are in the Interior Health region, where tougher restrictions were put in place this month. 

The province says people who were not fully vaccinated accounted for 82 per cent of the infections and nearly 86 per cent of hospitalizations from Aug. 12 to 25. 

Close to 76 per cent of eligible B.C. residents age 12 and up have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, while nearly 84 per cent have had at least one shot.

There are 14 active outbreaks in acute care, long-term care or assisted-living facilities.
