Community members who wish to showcase the efforts of individuals and organizations in preserving Richmond's heritage can now submit nominations for the 2024 Richmond Heritage Awards.

In honour of ongoing community efforts to shape Richmond's shared community identity through preserving the city's past stories and heritage places, the city's heritage commission is inviting nominations for the following categories:

  • Preservation, restoration, rehabilitation or adaptive reuse of a historic place such as a building or structure, or conservation of a cultural heritage landscape

  • Promotion or awareness of local heritage through education, outreach or advocacy

  • Contributions to local knowledge of heritage in public history or interpretation projects

Nominations are open to all community members and can be submitted from now until Sunday, May 26.

Last year's recipients include the Richmond Museum Society, which introduced a new website allowing the public to engage with the city's culture and history.

Fellow winners McMath secondary teachers Andrea Phillpotts and Hayley Valliquette, on the other hand, were acknowledged for their innovative approach to educating the Grade 12 social justice class about the injustices of Japanese Canadian internment by using primary sources connected to Richmond.
