Richmond foundation launches new fund to honour local resident

The Richmond Community Foundation has launched a new Forever Fund to honour a local Richmond resident.

Sandy Wakabayashi, who passed away peacefully on Sept. 17, 2021, was a Richmond resident for over 50 years and worked the majority of his career in the seine net lofts at BC Packers and Canadian Fish.

He was described as a “quiet and generous” man who always appreciated the care he received from his healthcare team and at the Richmond Hospital, according to a Richmond Community Foundation statement.

The Sandy Wakabayashi Legacy Fund was created by Wakabayashi’s family and will support both the Richmond Hospital Foundation and the Steveston Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre.

“Sandy Wakabayashi was a valued member of the community, making meaningful contributions to Richmond throughout his life,” said Ed Gavsie, executive direcctor of the Richmond Community Foundation.

“We're so happy that his family has established a Forever Fund in Sandy’s memory, because it ensures the causes he cared about will have ongoing support.”
