A 40-year-old 'porch pirate' has been released on an order to appear in court for stealing packages off a Prince George homeowner's front doorstep.

Jeffrey Krafczyk, who's well-known to RCMP, was arrested Thursday afternoon (March 11) after he was caught on surveillance taking two packages from a residence on 1600-block Gillett Street in the Bowl area.

Spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper explains police received a report around 1:15 p.m. that day of the incident.

The homeowner provided a detailed description of the suspect after watching the video footage, which Cooper said was a key factor in finding and arresting Krafczyk less than 45 minutes later.

He's since been approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service for charges of Theft under $5,000 and Failing to Comply with Probation.

Krafczyk was taken to the downtown RCMP detachment following his arrest before making a first court appearance, and Mounties say he's back in the community for now.

Currently on a release order, he's scheduled to be back in court at the end of March.
