Hunting with Holmes: Check out these treasures found at Prince George Hospice Resale Shop

Hunting with Holmes - June 26, 2020
True Legend jeans and an old painting once belonging to the Chicago Art Gallery. Two treasures found in Prince George. (via Amanda Holmes for Prince George Hospice Resale Shop)

Worth Repeating.

My name is Amanda Holmes and I am the Marketing Manager of the Prince George Hospice Resale Store. I’ve been working at the Hospice store on McGill Crescent for just a short while and already I am fascinated by the world of resale.

Imagine a store where everything has a story. We’re not just buying a set of mugs, we’re buying Auntie Pat's favourite coffee mug. The one she used to quietly sip out of while watching the sunrise over Cranbrook Hill.

That old painting...? It hung in an art gallery in Chicago for many years before being bought by a very well off family and was passed on for generations before making its way to Prince George and being donated to Hospice in an estate sale.

How about those True Religion jeans that someone paid $300 for brand new? How about the fact that they still look brand new and are priced at only a fraction of their worth?

To understand the value in resale, you must really look at the objects. My mother-in-law loves to knit, and right away, I noticed balls and balls of yarn for sale.

Maybe someone didn’t finish all the face cloths they set out to make, or the colour wasn’t right for the Pinterest project they bought it for.

So, off to the Hospice Resale Store it goes to be re-bought for pennies compared to what it sold for in a retail store.

Now, another knitter comes in and buys a few rolls and makes a beautiful blanket for her new grandchild.

Can you see the beauty in what’s happened here?

A once purchased object is reused, recycled and will now be re-loved by someone else.

What better way to keep so many items out of our landfills. To give new life to furniture, clothing, toys, books, shoes and the list goes on and on.

By purchasing a resale item you’re not just buying an object, you’re buying a story and there are a million stories in our store.
