The Sunshine Coast Natural History Society (SCNHS) March meeting will feature an illustrated presentation of a birding tour to Costa Rica by photographer and photojournalist, Penny Hall.
Beginning in the capital, San José, the tour covers Selva Verde in the north-east, Savegre Mountain in the central mountains and the world famous Wilson Botanical Gardens Las Cruces Biological Station. The tour concludes at the Tiskita Jungle Lodge, located at the end of the road at the extreme southwest tip of Costa Rica. Besides birds, the presentation will include photos of mammals, reptiles, butterflies, botany and scenery. Her photo journal book will be present for viewing.Hall was born in Wilson Creek and grew up on the Sunshine Coast. She has worked at a variety of occupations on and off-Coast, ranging from bookkeeping, legal secretarial to business administration.
After spending 17 years in the Okanagan she returned to the Coast in 2009 and began following her passion for photography and photo journaling. Since returning to the Sunshine Coast she has become an avid birder and bird photographer.
She is a SCNHS director and editor of the society's newsletter, Marsh Wrenderings.
Her presentation starts at 7:30 p.m. on March 1 at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt. New members are always welcome.
