Born on December 9, 1947. Passed away on April 5, 2024 at the age of 76 in Mazatlan, Mexico.

Ron managed Odeon theaters in Calgary at the beginning of his career. He worked at several ski areas in Alberta. While on a ski vacation in Whistler  “because of his passion for skiing “ he ended up staying and being part of the management team at Whistler. Ron went on to teach Ski Area Management at Selkirk College in Nelson, B.C. for two years.

Ron and Marita bought the Garden Bay Hotel in 1982. It consisted of a pub, restaurant, marina and a float plane operation. They sold the business in 2014, retiring to spend time at Halfmoon Bay, B.C. and Mazatlan, Mexico.

Before retirement, Ron was very committed to his community, organizing and supporting many charitable events. He supported and promoted the Blues Festival and the Jazz Festival. He also promoted several musicians who performed at the pub. Who can forget the Friday night meat draws. These funds went to help support the Pender Harbour Medical Clinic and other local organizations. At the pub, Ron and Marita hosted fishing derbies for the community. Triathlon competitions and the popular Rotary Club Art Auctions were also hosted at the pub. Both of these events were well attended. The “Show and Shine” car show was another well attended event. Ron continued to do the announcing for the show even after the Pub was sold. People always loved the music he played.

Ron will be greatly missed by Marita, his friends in B.C. and also friends and family in Alberta and Ontario.

A special heartfelt thank you to all the doctors who took excellent care of Ron throughout the years.

Celebration of life will be held at a future date.

A life well lived.
