Home heating talk answers your burning questions

Don’t close that damper and let the fire smoulder overnight.

Does your chimney build up with creosote and release a lot of smoke into the neighbourhood? If so, what is the moisture content of the wood you burn? Do you build your fire from the top down or bottom up?

The Sunshine Coast Clean Air Society has locally administered the provincial Wood Stove Exchange Program since 2009. In this time, 350 Coast residents have earned a $250 rebate for trading in their smoky, old, inefficient stove. This year’s incentive is $400 for switching from wood burning. Come learn why on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Sechelt’s Seaside Centre for a talk entitled Consider Home Heating: Better Wood Burning and Alternatives. Even if you’re a tenant or it’s your neighbours who burn wood, join the discussion and get tips to pass along.
