Deck the Hulls to support Gibsons RCM-SAR

Gibsons Marina

Gibsons Marina – sporting over 30,000 lights on its flagpole and chandlery – is inviting all boat owners in the harbour to “Deck the Hulls” in honour of the season. “Decorating the boats for the season, and turning our flagpole into the tallest Christmas tree on the Coast, is part of an exciting new annual tradition,” says Marina owner Klaus Fuerniss.

“We are lighting up the harbour, as a fundraiser to support Gibsons’ Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 14 (RCM-SAR).”

Local boaters decking the hulls are encouraged to enter a prize draw at the Marina office, with all funds raised to help fund RCM-SAR Station 14’s annual operating costs. Draw prize winners will be announced Dec. 16. Non-boating members of the public are encouraged to drop by the Marina office, enjoy the lights, and make a donation to RCM-SAR as well. Fuerniss notes that “the Deck the Hulls fundraising event is a chance to give back to a group that is always there, in all weather, whenever needed.”

Fuerniss credited and thanked David Fleming of Fleming’s Tree Service and Olsen Electric who donated their services in support of the RCM-SAR fundraiser to help create the “Christmas tree” beacon near the Marina gate. The display is already popular with photographers, and by the time Santa arrives in Gibsons Harbour on Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. and the Carol Ships sail at 6 p.m. as part of the Lights in the Landing event, organizers hope to see the whole harbour decked with lights.
