Sixteen enthusiastic tennis players aged eight to 12 took part in the Sunshine Coast's third Rogers Rookie Tour recently.

Sponsored by the Suncoast Racquet Club and head coach Jacques Joyal, this fun competition that stresses tennis skills and sportsmanship, gives entry-level players the opportunity to experience tournament play.

Louis Perrier won the 'Wimbledon' section of the draw with Noah Woodin as the runner up. The 'French Open' group winner was Gus Goersen and Kate Elstone was finalist.

This tournament, along with a raffle, was the culmination of a successful program that saw Kinnikinnick Elementary School students in grades 2 to 7 receiving tennis lessons this year. More than 350 students have taken part in the clinics.

Raffle prizes were donated by Trail Bay Source for Sports, Suncoast Racquet Club and Joyal. The prize winners of tennis racquets and free tennis camps for the summer session were Keyarah Johnson, Ronnie Nelson, Aliya Craigan and Kody McKinney.

Tennis camps for a variety of age levels and abilities will be offered during July and August. For information and registration check the website: www.srctennis.ca or contact Joyal at 604-741-7858 or email joyal.jacques@yahoo.ca.
