SC Spirit of Excellence will host a volleyball fundraiser next Friday, Nov. 22, at Elphinstone Secondary School.

Former national player Jan Richey and her fellow volleyball club coaches will teach skills to students in grades 5 to 9. The Elphi senior girls will be junior coaches, guaranteeing a fun-filled day with competitions and exciting prizes donated by Volleyball Stuff, Canada's premier volleyball store.

Boys and girls in grades 5 and 6 can join from 9 to 11 a.m. and grades 7 to 9 can attend from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Arrive early to watch Richey running a drill demo for the junior instructors from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Parents can register their children at www.scsoe.ca for $25, which includes a camp shirt. Students can save a spot by emailing jrichey@dccnet.com.

The late Connor Richey (Jan's son) comes from a family of outstanding athletes, including his twin brother Stuart, who plays volleyball for Thompson Rivers University, and sister Kyla, a five-time national champion who is currently enjoying a professional contract in Turkey, Europe's leading country in volleyball, after finishing her first professional contract in Germany.

The Sunshine Coast Credit Union announced a generous donation to support Connor Richey's Legacy Fund, which will benefit junior golf players through mentoring programs and memberships. Talent will be identified at school junior clinics.

BC Lacrosse hands out awards
