This year’s Coast Tennis Classic Hospice Fundraiser will feature events for non-tennis players as well as the fast-paced action on the courts.

The event, set for Sept. 6 to 8, is expected to draw teams from the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver and Vancouver Island, and all proceeds from the tennis tournament and other activities go directly to the Sunshine Coast Hospice.

Last year the event raised $30,000 for this vital organization on the Sunshine Coast.

This year the primary sponsor is Spani Developments.  Suncoast Racquet Club provides their professional indoor tennis courts and facilities for the entire weekend.

New this year are added activities and events that the non-tennis player can participate in.

On Friday, Sept. 6, between 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the Suncoast Racquet Club, thanks to sponsor Pedals and Paddles, there will be free entertainment by Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis and a BBQ with beef and veggie burgers for sale. Beer, wine and refreshments will also be available. Come join the party and watch the start of mixed doubles tennis action!

On Saturday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. there will be team bocce at Blue Ocean Golf Club. Come to the club before 1 p.m. on Saturday to register as a team of two. Or come on your own and join a team. Entry fee is $5 per person.

Saturday evening is the Coast Classic Gala at Blue Ocean Golf Club. Tennis players and guests from the Coast come together to celebrate the weekend and have fun bidding on great prizes, raffle items and unique live auction items; it is a lively night with great food and people. Matt Morris from Coast FM is the emcee, and Ed Hill is the auctioneer.

The Gala has already sold out, but there are a few spots left for the tennis tournament.

Contact Coast Classic co-chair Cindy Ross at 604-838-9598 or by email, cindyross169@gmail.com, to register.
