The Girls U15 Storm Rep Soccer team has been enjoying an exciting start to their year. They have won 10 games, tied one and lost only two. Their last game this year was a strong win 3-1 over the No. 1 ranked team in their division – their second win against them this season. They are currently in first place and will end the year in either first place, second place or tied for first place.

The girls started the season with a roster of seasoned and new players who came together for the first time as a team at a Labour Day tournament. They finished up the weekend with a stunning victory in the final game. Their confidence was on display with the first league game leading to a 7-0 victory, which was then followed up with a tie game with their league rivals from Squamish.

Team captains for Girls U-15 Storm this year are Mika Schutz and Jeanette Muirhead, who work together as both leaders and planners for team events. Also returning for their third season together are Asha Lui-Henekie, Cassie Gibb, Eilis Pedretti-Ritchlin, Kaliyana Denham-Rohlicek, Kayla Evenson, Kyra Peel, Sarah Wilson, Sophia Bergeau and Tessa Hage and the team’s new goalie, Alice Clements. Alice has stepped up for the team and continues to demonstrate tremendous determination as goaltender under her father Rick’s dedicated tutelage. There are four new players (Lauren Damsgaard, Kiara Hart, Sophia O’Laughlin and Melissa Spain) and four younger players training with the squad.

The girls continue to improve every week by dialing in on their passing and finding their voices with strong team communication on the pitch. The girls train hard twice weekly with an additional session of Kalijo Pilates to fine-tune their game. It is great to see the strength, skill and determination of the girls grow each week.

Owen Schutz and Brett Heneke are the team’s dedicated coaches, Carrie Evenson the new manager who keeps the team in the know and on the go. Team Storm has certainly had an impressive start to the season. With the team’s strong work ethic, fierce determination and fabulous team spirit there are sure to be many more highlights to come yet this year.
