The Swingers and Water stage at the Redneck 3 gun shoot and BBQ. Shooters had to negotiate targets, clay pigeons and a number of water bottles, one of which was at very close range and resulted in a shower.

The Sunshine Coast Rod and Gun Club (SCRGC) hosted a Redneck 3 Gun Shoot and BBQ at their upper Pinecone range this past weekend, June 4 and 5, with many out of town competitors.

Congratulations to the winners Brian McCoy (Open), Kris Hopkins (Tactical), Thom White (Iron Sights) and Jaime McLennan (Ladies). Lever Arms of Vancouver won the First Annual Gun Store Team Trophy.

In this 3 Gun Tactical match, competitors use three different firearms: a modern sporting rifle (that is, a rifle built on an AR-platform), a pistol and a shotgun. Targets are a combination of reactive steel, paper, moving/sliding targets or anything else the match organizer designates as a target. For example, water bottles were used on this hot weekend, resulting in some wet shooters.

Distances of the targets varied from two metres to 300 metres. The shooter who hits the most targets in the least amount of time is the winner. The Sunshine Coast 3 Gun Competition is known as a Redneck match as it is not associated with a sanctioning body such as International Practical Shooting Confederation or the US Practical Shooting Association.

Over 15,000 rounds of ammunition were sent down range this weekend.

The club would like to thank the volunteers and express appreciation to the following for their unexpected and generous donations: Buck Fever, Lever Arms, Wooly Leatherworks and Reliable Gun.

The SCRGC is an organization devoted to the pursuit of the outdoor lifestyle. Formed over 50 years ago, it provides a venue for people who enjoy hunting, target shooting, fishing and the beauty of nature. The SCRGC supports programs such as WildSafeBC, the Roosevelt Elk Relocation and Sal-monid Enhancement on the Sunshine Coast.

The SCRGC has been holding 3 Gun Tactical and Cowboy Action shooting matches for the past four years. The club will be holding a Sportsman Show and Swap Meet open to the public on Aug. 6 at the Clubhouse, 4384 Parkway Dr. in Wilson Creek. For more information about the club, contact [email protected] or see www.sunshinecoastrodandgunclub.com.
