Mountain biking up the Big Tree!

Trails

It is exciting for mountain bikers in Sechelt, because forest trails are not far away. But with all the forests to choose from, where can a biker go? The answer is Big Tree Park!

To find the park from Sechelt, take the 101 towards Trout Lake. On the curve just before the lake, there is a gravel road on the right that is a sharp right hairpin turn. Take this gravel road to the end where there is a small parking area and you have arrived at Big Tree Park.

From the parking area there are plenty of beginner and intermediate trails to ride as well as a walking trail to the big trees. Ride up the road with your bike until you reach Crowston Lake where you will find the beginning of an easy intermediate trail called Parbac. Ride up Parbac until you get to an intersection where VFR and Parbac meet. Keep right on Parbac and it is all downhill now until you get back to your starting point.

You need to go to the left a little when you come to the clearcut to find the continuation of the trail. Then watch out for the big log. You will need to either ride the ramp over it, or take the easier path around it. After the big log take the right fork to stay on Parbac, which will take you to the walking trail and the parking lot in Big Tree Park.

If you want to try the left fork after the big log, then go back up the road and turn right on the road into the clearcut. Go over or around the big log and take the left fork which is the Brokebac Trail. Brokebac is a challenging up and down technical trail with some narrow boardwalks and it ends up at the picnic area where the big trees are. Ride the walking trail back to your vehicle.
